Moon Daddy Myco is a mycology supply and research genetics vendor, but he's been growing long before Moon Daddy Myco was ever a thing. He started cultivating at 17 and has been at it for 23 years, including time as a commercial cultivator.
A lot of his work today is centered around breeding, isolation, and experimenting with techniques that most growers probably aren't messing with every day. One of his main areas of research has been remonokaryotization of haploids and symmetrical recovery. Much of what he does comes from his own independent research and figuring out how to take things that were once considered extremely difficult and make them practical for the average cultivator.
That really sums up his approach to mycology in general. Growing mushrooms is already complicated. He doesn't see much value in making it even more complicated just for the sake of doing things differently. He'd rather find a simpler way to get there and make those techniques accessible whether someone is growing for the first time or has been doing it for years.
Education has become a big part of that too. He's built communities on Discord and other platforms where growers can learn, ask questions, and share what they're working on.
More than anything, he believes the future is people cultivating their own. There's something about actually growing mushrooms that teaches you more than the end experience ever could. The patience, failures, experimentation, and finally seeing something you worked on come to life are all part of it.
